PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After drafting a pair of literal twin forwards, the Pens used a second, second round pick on Czechia defenseman Tomas Galvas Saturday afternoon in the NHL Draft.
Pens take twins with 1st 2 picks of NHL Draft
The 20-year-old is 5’10”, 168 pounds and a left-hand shot. Going at pick 54 overall is right about where many of the experts ranked him. He’s described by Elite Prospects as a mobile, two-way defenseman. In thehockeywriters.com bio they say Galvas is a ‘smooth, fluid skater, which he uses to his advantage on offense. His skating and puck-handling combine in his ability to bring the puck through the neutral zone while evading defenders. His ability in transition also manifests itself in his ability to make breakout and stretch passes. Though occasionally turnover-prone, he is a skilled puck-mover overall with a great release on his shot’.
He had 24 points (eight goals) in 32 games in his Czechia league and then played 47 games representing his country (including the World Cup) with 26 points (six goals) and a +7.
