Penguins and Canadian Captain Sidney Crosby will not play Friday against Finland in the Milan-Cortina Olympics semi-final.
Sidney Crosby exited the game mid-way through the second period on Wednesday after taking consecutive hits on the ice.
Crosby did not participate at the team’s optional skate on Thursday
Ahead of Friday’s game vs Finland, Coach Jon Cooper officially ruled Crosby out.
Per Olympic rules, teams must have someone wear a “C” on the jerseys as team captain.
That honor will now go to Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid.
Crosby had 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) ahead of Wednesday’s game
Crosby has not been ruled out for the rest of the Olympics. It’s unclear if he’ll play if Canada advances to the gold-medal game on Sunday.
The United States faces Slovakia in the other semi-final game Friday.
