After First Major League Victory, Ponce Optioned Back To Altoona

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - A day after he earned his first Major League victory, the Pirates have optioned rookie Cody Ponce back to the team’s alternative site in Altoona.

Ponce went 5 2/3 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday allowing five hits and giving up zero runs in the Pirates 2-0 victory.

Ponce also struck out two and walked two.

While it was the first start for Ponce, he did make two relief appearances for the Bucs earlier this season and has an ERA of 2.00.

The Pirates’ 28-man roster can be increased to 29 on days they have to play a double header.

The Pirates have at least two more double headers this season One against Cincinnati on September 4 and another one against the Cardinals on September 18.
