Pirates pitcher Chad Kuhl struggled in the first inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Padres, but former Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell was even worse.

Snell was chased out of the game after only facing eight batters, working only 0.2 of an inning. He gave up 3 earned runs on 38 pitches.

With two runners on, catcher Jacob Stallings doubled, bringing in Bryan Reynolds and Phillip Evans.

Erik Gonzalez followed that up with a double of his own, driving in Stallings.

Snell was then yanked after walking Adam Frazier and plunking Anthony Alford.

MLB Network debated if Padres’ manager Jayce Tingler took Snell out too soon. While that move is up for debate, it is strange he was taken out with Pirate pitcher Chad Kuhl coming up to bat. His current batting average is .000.

It’s the first time since June, 2019 he was pulled from a game in the first inning.

Only lasted 0.1 in that outing giving up six runs against the New York Yankees when he was still a member of the of the Tampa Rays

The first inning of the game took nearly an hour after Pirates starter Chad Kuhl also got off to rough start giving up two runs on 37 pitches.
