PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was a typical pregame at PNC Park Monday with a Brewers pitcher running in the outfield during Pirates batting practice when it became a scary situation.

Milwaukee's Jakob Junis was doing simple sprints and had his eyes focused on the bullpen in front of him when a line drive struck him in the neck. Junis quickly went down to the right field grass and laid on his back. He only slightly moved as Brewers and Pirates trainers worked on him for roughly 15 minutes. Eventually it was determined to call for an ambulance, which would back onto right field and Junis was able to get himself into the vehicle, mostly with assistance as he helped get himself onto a back board.

The 31-year-old was conscious, alert and responsive and was taken to a local hospital for further observation.

It's typical for pitchers or other players to run sprints during batting practice. Usually there is a lot going on between infield and outfield drills, batting practice and playing catch.

Junis is in his first season with the Brewers after two years with the Giants and the previous five seasons with Kansas City. He is currently on the injured list with a shoulder injury.
