PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Reports of Oneil Cruz having ligament damage to his left hand explained Thursday as the Pirates had a couple of other brief updates.

Pirates Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk said anytime you have multiple fractures in a hand there will also be ligament damage, it’s just the nature of the injury. They aren’t concerned with the ligament as much as getting the bones healed, that is the primary issue. The thought being the ligaments will heal as the bones do.

Konnor Griffin threw on Wednesday as it was described as 75% of what he can do from 90 feet. Griffin expressed to the team that he ‘felt good’. The thought is he will eventually go to Florida to get more work in and then, depending on how the injury progresses, could be back in a few weeks. There is no official timeline or talk of having him be a designated hitter first, they are working on getting the forearm healthy.

Endy Rodriguez left the game on Wednesday with hip discomfort, but after examination, Rodriguez won’t be added to the Injured List. The Pirates did call up catcher Shawn Ross on the taxi squad, just in case.
