The number one overall 2021 draft pick, Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Henry Davis is speaking out following MLB's latest proposal in an attempt to get the season underway.

According to reports, Major League Baseball has asked to eliminate "hundreds of minor league paying job" in their latest proposal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Passan says the league wants to reduce the number of minor league players from 180 to 150 after the 2023 season.

Those 180 players are part of the current The Domestic Reserve List which dictates how many players can have on their roster at any time.

Davis says that cutting players would make it harder to expand the game.

"The people making these decisions regarding MLB and MiLB have consistently made every effort to cut costs at the expense of the game," Davis said on Twitter. "Hard to grow baseball when the people with the power to do so treat it solely as an investment trying to maximize short term returns."

Tuesday was supposed to mark the beginning of pitchers and catchers reporting to Spring Training camps, but a deal between the MLB and the players union has yet to be reached.

Currently with the Pirates High-A affiliate Greensboro Grasshoppers, Davis batted .308 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and seven RBI over 26 at bats.
