While the majority of the 2020 Pirates season was full of disappointment, fans have a few bright spots to look forward to.
While the Bucs did play well the last week of the season, winning four of their last six, they still managed to clinch the worst record in baseball, and if reports are true that the draft will be determined by record, the Pirates will get the top pick.
It is safe to say they will select either Kumar Rocker or Jack Leiter, two top-ranked right-handed pitchers out of Vanderbilt.
Last week, ESPN’s Jeff Passen reported while MLB has yet to announce how the draft order will be determined a source tells him, “it’s highly likely that the draft order will be determined by this year’s record.”
The Pirates ended the season 19-41 with the Rangers finishing with the second worst record at 22-38.
The 2021 MLB Draft will take place in June.
