PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Jack Brannigan was called up for a day and didn’t play a little over a week ago, now on Tuesday a potentially a lengthy opportunity for Pirates. The 2022 third-round pick starts on the Taxi Squad at the MLB due to the injury to shortstop Konnor Griffin with the chance to stay.
Brannigan has only 19 at bats at AAA with five hits, including a pair of home runs. The right-handed hitter has the distinction of playing on every Pirates minor league team this year from Rookie ball through AAA as he worked his way back from a broken nose during Spring Training. The majority of the 25-year-old’s at bats have been with AA Altoona—33 games, 8 doubles, 8 home runs, 18 RBI, .226 average and .819 OPS.
Brannigan was a Third Team All-American at Notre Dame his final season with 56 starts at third base hitting .291 with 15 doubles and 12 home runs. He also made 11 appearances including a start on the mound (2-2, 14.2 innings, 2 saves, 26 strikeouts).
