Pirates short stop Konnor Griffin returns to the lineup Friday night as the team begins a three-game homestand against the Cincinnati Reds.
Griffin has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list after missing the entire month of June with a right elbow strain.
To make room on the roster, the Pirates are optioning infielder Jack Brannigan back to Double-A.
Brannigan was called up after the Pirates placed first baseman Spencer Horwitz on the IL with a left hamstring injury.
The 20-year-old rookie was batting. 270 with 22 RBI, four home runs, and an OPS of .729 through 51 games with 1.5 wins above replacement.
Griffin went 2-for-2 Wednesday night with a triple, home run and three RBI.
