PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After what obviously is a gut-punch for Carmen Mlodzinski, he stuck around after postgame interviews concluded Thursday following a 7-2 loss to the Cubs to give his thoughts on being sent to the bullpen in favor of Jared Jones.
“Obviously just excited to have Jared back with us,” Mlodzinski said.
The next sentence is where you really got a chance to know what the 27-year-old was feeling after going 3-1 in May with a 3.38 ERA and only five earned runs allowed in his last 21 innings.
“I can honestly say I’m just still communicating with the organization and the people in my corner, whether that’s my family or my agency, about what is next,” Mlodzinski said in the clubhouse. “I really don’t have any comments after that.”
Although there were a few more questions.
Mlodzinski said he wasn’t ready to discuss the challenges of going back to the bullpen.
He’s proud of the work he did as a starter, but said he will leave it at that.
Asked if he was told he was the one that fit best in the bullpen, he said it wasn’t delivered to him like that.

How was the decision delivered?
“We had a conversation (Wednesday) about it and I’m just not quite ready to share too many details right now,” Mlodzinski said.
The right-hander is not sure what his day-to-day routine will look like going forward, but he pleased with the support from his teammates.
“Yeah, I think they try to put themselves in my shoes,” Mlodzinski said. “We all try to support each other. We are all going to do that for Jared tomorrow. We are excited to see him. We are all going to support each other for sure on this team.”
