Oneil Cruz activated off concussion IL, Andrew Heaney DFA'ed

The Pirates made some roster moves on Tuesday against of their second game in St. Louis against the Cardinals.

Outfielder Oneil Cruz has been activated off the concussion injured list and has ended a rehab assignment in Double-A Altoona.

Cruz has been out since he collided with left fielder Jack Suwinski during a loss against the Brewers in Milwaukee on August 13.

The Pirates have also activated relief pitcher Dauri Moreta from Triple-A after he was optioned to Indianapolis earlier this month to make room for RHP Chase Shugart.

Moreta, entering his second stint in Pittsburgh, has a 1.69 ERA over his last four appearances with the Indians.

To make room for Cruz and Moreta, the Pirates have optioned outfielder Ronny Simon and designated starting pitcher Andrew Heaney for assignment.

Heaney gave up five hits and five earned runs on Monday night in relief for Johan Oviedo in a 7-6 loss to St. Louis.

In addition, pitchers Justin Lawrence and Tim Mayza have had their rehab assignments transferred from Low-A Bradenton to Triple-A.

The Pirates have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
