Pirates Gold Glove-winning third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has been traded to the Cincinnati Reds the team has confirmed.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan first to report the Pirates are getting back shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura and veteran relief pitcher Taylor Rogers.
The Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles reports the Reds are taking over Hayes' entire contract and that Jared Triolo will take over third base.
Hayes being dealt comes as no surprise.
While he has one of the best gloves in the entire MLB his bat hasn’t lived up to its potential.
Hayes is batting .236 this year and a .569 OPS.
He has two home runs and 36 RBI over 100 games this season.
The 23-year-old signed an eight-year, $70 million contract in 2022.
The Reds will have five more years of control after this season.
The 34-year-old Rogers is 2-2 this season with a 2.45 ERA over 40 games. He has 34 strike outs over 33 innings.
Stafura was batting .262 in Single-A Daytona with an OPS of .804.
Stafura was in the Reds top 10 prospects list at #9 and has an ETA of 2027 in the MLB.
