The Pirates have signed their second-round supplemental pick from the MLB Draft earlier this month.
The team announced the signing of second baseman Chris Rembert taken out of Auburn. He was taken 51st official.
MLB.com says Rembert has ‘some of the best bat speed in college baseball’. They credit his advanced approach managing the strike zone very well and hitting line drives. The 21-year-old could project to an outfielder in MLB.
As a freshman at Auburn, Rembert, a right-hander, hit .344 and last year hit .343. The difference would be power going from 10 HR as a freshman to 4 last seasons, but the rest of the numbers are comparable.
Rembert will report to the Florida Complex League.
