The long-awaited debut of short stop Oneil Cruz is Monday night for the Pirates.

Outfielder Bligh Madris is also in Pittsburgh for the game and will start in right field and bat in the seven spot. Cruz will bat sixth.

With Cruz and Madris being promoted, the Pirates have optioned infielder Liover Peguero to Double-A Altoona and right-handed pitcher Zach Thompson has been placed on the 15-day injured list with forearm inflammation in his right arm.

MLB teams need to bring their rosters down to 13 pitcher and 13 position players by today.

Thompson being sent to Double-A brings the Pirates to 13 pitchers, but also leaves them without one of their starters.

Acquired in the offseason trade with the Miami Marlins for catcher Jacob Stallings, Thompson is 3-5 for the Pirates this season over 13 appearances with 41 strikeouts, 23 walks and an ERA of 4.47.
