To make room, catcher Jason Delay, RHP Cody Bolton and outfielder Josh Palacios have all been optioned to Triple-A

To make room on the 40-man roster, in a surprising move, outfielder Travis Swaggerty has been designated for assignment.

It’s a gamble for the Pirates, but they had to take a player off the 40-man roster.
