Pirates make pitching move ahead of Cardinals finale

The Pirates made some roster moves ahead of Thursday afternoon’s series finale in St. Louis.

Right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana, claimed off waivers by the Pirates from the New York Yankees on Tuesday is active for the rubber match against the Cardinals.

To make room for Santana, the Pirates optioned RHP Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Santana was 2-0 this season with the Yankees. He has a 6.26 ERA over 23 games with two saves.

Over 27.1 innings pitched, he had 19 strikeouts.

Ryan is 1-0 with a 2.46 ERA in Pittsburgh over 11 games.

He has 14 strikeouts over 13 innings.

The Pirates also announced infielder Alika Williams is beginning a rehabilitation assignment with Indianapolis on Thursday.

Williams was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right wrist sprain.

Pirates look for another series win at 2:15 p.m. That game can be heard and will be streamed on 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA.
