Struggling Pirates relief pitcher Colin Holderman is going on the team’s 15-day injured list with a right-wrist sprain.
The team also designated for assignment outfielder Edward Olivares.
Olivares was DFA’ed to make room for right-handed pitcher Ben Heller. His contract was selected by the Pirates from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Two injured players will also begin rehab assignments in Indianapolis Thursday night.
Pitcher Jared Jones and outfielder Joshua Palacios will begin to work their way back to the Major League roster.
Holderman is 3-5 this season over 44 relief appearances with a 3.21 ERA, but the past seven games has gone 0-4 with an ERA of 11.37. He’s given up eight earned runs and 10 hits over his last 6.1 innings.
Heller is joining the Pirates for a second time this season. He appeared in two games this season with the Pirates, last pitching in early June.
He is 0-1 with a 49.50 ERA over two innings pitched, giving up 11 earned runs over that time.
