The Pirates have placed third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes on the injured list with a back injury.
The team says Hayes is dealing with “low back inflammation.”
The Pirates also made several other moves:
Right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Outfielder/first baseman Billy McKinney’s contract has been selected by the Pirates.
Right-handed pitcher Ryder Ryan has been designated for assignment.
Hayes is batting .233 this season with nine extra base hits and four home runs. He has 25 RBI in 2024.
His last seven games, Hayes has really struggled batting .071 with 11 strikeouts.
Hayes’ back has been a concern over his career, especially this year.
Manager Derek Shelton said on his Fan show last month that Hayes’ was health at the time but his back was something that would continue to “linger” through the season.
McKinney is batting .295 over 40 games with the Indians and has reached base safely in his last 16 games.
While in Indianapolis, Stratton has pitched 2.1 scoreless inning since he was optioned to Triple-A 10 days ago.
