PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pirates added some versatility today according to ESPN's Jeff Passan by signing veteran free agent second baseman and outfielder Dee Strange-Gordon.
This amid the injury news that INF Erik Gonzalez is a couple of weeks from playing, INF/OF Phillip Evans is on the concussion injured list, OF Gregory Polanco is out until at least next weekend.
It also could lead to more speculation that they will trade second baseman Adam Frazier soon.
Strange-Gordon bounced around to nearly every team in the division just this season. Opting out of his minor-league contract with the Cubs on Tuesday.
Overall the 33- year-old Strange-Gordon played in 1002 major league games with a .286 batting average and .319 on base percentage. He doesn't hit for much power, 18 homers, but has an abnormally high 54 career triples and 333 stolen bases.
He's a proponent for mental health awareness and hosted a baseball clinic and drive-thru gear giveaways in his home state of Florida this year.
Reportedly, Strange-Gordon will begin his Pirates career with AAA Indianapolis.
