PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It was expected that Paul Skenes wouldn’t pitch in the All-Star Game because he is scheduled to start on Sunday. Skenes on Tuesday was replaced on the roster, by his teammate, Braxton Ashcraft.
The 26-year-old is in his first full season as a starter with the Pirates and has been its most consistent pitcher. Through 18 starts, the right-hander is 9-3 (8th in NL in wins) with a 3.24 ERA (11th in NL), 108.1 innings (4th in NL), 25 walks and 122 strikeouts (4th in NL) with a 1.10 WHIP and .234 batting average against.
A second-round pick in 2018 out of high school in Texas, Ashcraft overcame a couple of major injuries in the minors to reach this opportunity.
Also out of the All-Star Game are the Brewers Jacob Misiorowski and Miami’s Max Meyer. St. Louis pitcher Riley O’Brien and the Phillies Jesus Luzardo are the other replacements.
