The Pirates are placing Erik Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list and Wilmer Difo will be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Gonzalez left Thursday’s game with “right side discomfort.”

The move is interesting since both Gonzalez and Colin Moran are both on the IL, their first base situation is difficult and Difo is a middle infielder and hasn’t spent any time at first with the Indians.

Options for the Pirates at first include Ben Gamel, Phillip Evans with the Fan Pirates Insider Jason Mackey saying catcher Jacob Stallings could be a third option.

Difo was designated for assignment in the beginning of June.
He cleared waivers and was sent to Indy.

In 12 games with the Indians, he hit .244 and an OPS of .597.

In 44 games with the Pirates, Difo is also hitting .244 with and OPS of .653, 20 hits, one home run and six RBI.
