The Pirates are officially getting a Nike City Connect jersey this year.
The Pirates sent out a release on Monday that the new uniforms will debut on Tuesday, June 27 at PNC Park, when they take on the San Diego Padres.
Five other teams will also debut new City Connect jerseys in 2023 to bring the total number of teams with a City Connect to 20 across the MLB.
“Perhaps more than any other city, sports are intertwined into the fabric of Pittsburgh. Our sports teams are a part of who we are,” said Travis Williams, Pirates President. “We are excited to collaborate with Nike on the City Connect uniform to capture and celebrate this special connection between Pittsburgh and our fans.”
No word on what the uniforms will incorporate from the city. There is a lot to pick from.
Three rivers, steel, ketchup, inclines, bridge and food just to name a few.
It will be interested to see what Nike along with New Era hats come up with.
