The Pirates have announced they will use three different facilities in Pittsburgh during the month of April for members of the team’s alternate training site.

Players will use the locker room at Heinz Field in April and that will serve as their home clubhouse.

The players will work out at PNC Park and on days they have games, will play in Columbus, Toledo or Louisville.

When the Pirates are playing at PNC Park, the members of the alternate training site will work out at Charles l. Cost Field on Pitt’s campus.

No alternate training site games will take place in Pittsburgh, only work outs.

The Pirates tell The Fan, "It’s basically the AAA roster plus a few developmental people. So 25-30ish. Max is 33 but not sure we will send that many."

Regular AAA camp will be in Bradenton.

“The Pirates organization is extremely grateful to both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh for allowing our players and staff to use their first-class facilities during the first month of the season,” said general manager Ben Cherington. “It is a great example of the unique bond each of the professional teams and Pitt share with each other and part of what makes Pittsburgh such a special place.”
