The Pirates have made a trade with the San Diego Padres that will bring right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio to Pittsburgh.
To make room on the roster, the Pirates have designated Dennis Santana for assignment.
Santana is 2-5 this season with a 6.05 ERA with 37 strikeouts over 41.2 innings. Santana struggled to get back to his former self. He has a 2.18 ERA last year over 70 games, becoming the team’s reliever in late 2025.
The Pirates get the 31-year-old reliever in exchange for International Signing Bonus Pool money.
Marinaccio was Designated for Assignment on Monday by the Padres after posting a 4.79 ERA over 33 appearances this season.
He has 38 strikeouts, 18 walks, given up 25 runs and 50 hits over 47 innings pitched this season.
The Pirates begin a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night at PNC Park.
