PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to add to their 40-man roster, this time it comes in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Pirates announced on Thursday night that they have acquired infielder Josh VanMeter for minor league pitcher Listher Sosa.


To make room for the VanMeter addition to the 40-man roster, Jared Oliva has been designated for assignment.

VanMeter is a 27-year-old second baseman who has played in 233 career games and holds a .212 batting average.

Through 310 plate appearances over his career, VanMeter has collected 121 hits, 16 home runs, and 36 RBIs.

In 52 games at second base in 2021, VanMeter held a .976 fielding percentage.
