
Former Pirates catcher and World Series champion Ed Ott has died.
In a statement, the team said “Ed spent seven of his eight years in the major leagues with the Pirates and was a valued member of our World Series championship team in 1979. Our sincere condolences to his wife, Sue, daughter Michelle, and the entire Ott family.”
Ott went on to coach and manage minor league teams and also coached with the Astros and Tigers.
Ott has a lifetime batting average of .259 with 195 RBI and 33 home runs.
Ott was born in Muncy, PA, which is in Lycoming County
Ed Ott was 72.
