Shelton expects Chapman to be with Pirates after trade deadline

Pirates fans are hoping the team is able to add some offense before the trade deadline on Tuesday.

They’re also hoping some players remain on the team. Players that could make bolster a deal for a bat.

One of those names is reliever Aroldis Chapman, who has been very good for the Bucs as of late.

On his radio show Tuesday, Manager Derek Shelton said, “I expect [Chapman] to be a Pirate tomorrow.”

Chapman is 3-0 over his last seven games with a 1.29 ERA.

Over his last 30, he’s 4-2 with a 3.14 ERA.

The 36-year-old “Cuban Missile” has been pitching more like its 2014 lately, instead of 2024.

Having Chapman and Bednar in the bullpen is a sign the Pirate are not punting on this season, even if they can’t get the bat they want.

Chapman signed a $10.5 million contract in the offseason with the Pirates.

If the team wasn’t it in, Chapman wouldn’t still be here.
