Reported new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith hasn’t even been officially hired yet, but is already taking a lot of flak from fans.
First reactions on the hire have gone from “terrible” to calling it a “safe” hire.
But Ken Carman with brother station 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland says it’s a good thing for the Steelers and bad for the Browns.
The day before the report was made, Carmen said he was hoping the Steelers wouldn’t take Smith.
“He'll run the ball like crazy, take pressure off whatever qb they end up with, and help them win a bunch of regular season games,” said Carman.
Carman also accurately prophesied that fans wouldn’t be in favor of the pick, but as he says the Steelers will “continue to cause problems.”
Carman’s argument is that with Kenny Pickett at quarterback, they won’t be a contender, no matter who the offensive coordinator is.
The PM Team talked about the move Tuesday. They talked about how Smith is a run game-first coach. Does that mean they’re trying to protect Pickett or maybe they know he isn’t the future franchise quarterback?
Smith failed as Atlanta’s Head Coach, but he got the job because of the job he did a good enough job as Tennessee’s OC to get him the job with the Falcons.
It’s only January, we’ll have plenty of time to speculate. Other than that, we just have to wait and see what happens.
