Could Rudolph be the #2 QB to start the season?

The Athletic's Mark Kaboly said Rudolph looked the best out there during minicamp

Mason Rudolph was considered basically a body going into minicamp, but according to one Steelers writer, he's looking pretty good.

"I think he looked the best out of them all," said The Athletic's Mark Kaboly on The Cook & Joe Show. "He probably should look the best out of them right? He's been in virtually the same system for four-five years here with Candida for a quarterback coach, offensive coordinator for a couple years."

Kaboly adds that Rudolph isn't a bad quarterback. "I just don't think he was surrounded by pieces to succeed early in his career."

Rudolph is bigger than both Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett, standing 6'5" (two inches more than Pickett and three more than Trubisky).

He isn't the mobile quarterback that and roll to the outside like the other two Steelers quarterbacks but Kaboly says he did what he needed to during minicamp.

"He looked pretty nibble for what they asked him to do," said Kaboly. "Move the pocket, get outside, throw on the run a little bit and I thought he probably threw the best ball out of them all."

Kaboly believes that Rudolph showed more than just a guy the Steelers can trade in September for a 5th round pick. But he adds that he would take a fifth-round pick for Rudolph because there is no way he comes back next year.

Coach Mike Tomlin said to not read in too much into minicamp but that's all we have to go off for next month or so.

Trubisky ran the first team the entire time, Rudolph the second and Pickett the third.

If Rudolph continues to impress could it be Pickett at third string to start the season?

It appears that it's Trubisky's job to lose barring an injury or very poor performance, at least to start the season, so who will win the battle at #2?
