Shortly after it was announced T.J. Watt was signing an extension with the Steelers, PM Team host Chris Mueller called the decision to re-sign the outside linebacker a mistake.
But Fan Morning Show host Dorin Dickerson host believes Watt will be worth every penny of his extension.
“I guarantee T.J. Watt is an All-Pro this year and possibly leads the league in sacks,” said Dickerson.
Dickerson says you’re going to see a better T.J. Watt compared to the player he was toward the end of last season when he only recorded two sacks in the last six games of the season (playoff loss included).
The Post-Gazette’s Christopher Carter tells The Fan Morning Show that Watt isn’t even closed to being “washed.”
Cater says before Watt, Joey Porter Sr. and James Harrison were the Steelers’ best edge rushers.
During their careers Porter and Harrison only had one season with 11.5 sacks or more.
“So, T.J. is so elite, that his one down year, when he has 11.5 sacks is considered, ‘oh, he’s done, he’s cooked, get him out of here’ when the two guys that defined the outside linebacker in my adulthood for the Pittsburgh Steelers. . . he dwarfs what they do statistically.”
Carter says with the salary cap the way it currently is in the NFL, this new deal for Watt costs less against the cap than his first extension in 2021 did.
