PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Mason Rudolph said after the first day of OTAs last Tuesday that it was good to be wanted. He was excited to be back with the Steelers. Thursday, Aaron Rodgers announced he would sign with the Steelers.
Did Mason Rudolph get done dirty?
Rudolph signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract to come back ‘to a special place’. He said he couldn’t wait to be back with good friends and a part of this offense. Now he’s a back-up again.
He knew of the rumors and probably had more inside information than he led on. Rudolph said when asked about Rodgers at the start of OTAs.
“That’s nothing new to me,” Rudolph said. “There’s been constant noise, that’s the nature of the NFL. Been used to that for a long time now. Do nothing but be the best I can be and help our team get better this spring.”
“Control what I can control. Throw the ball well, lead the guys and play well when I get the chance too.”
Talking during the Fan 5-Alarm Marathon, Dorin Dickerson said he believes, for the first time, the Steelers were straight-forward, up-front and honest with Rudolph.
“I think they were like, ‘listen, we’re going to go after another free agent quarterback, you probably will be the backup but will have opportunity to start,” said Dickerson. “I don’t know if they necessarily said it would be Aaron Rodgers.”
It looks like another tough luck situation for the veteran quarterback, drafted in the 3rd round of the 2018 Draft, but this time, it looks like the Steelers were more direct with Rudolph.
