Wide Receiver Diontae Johnson is hoping Mason Rudolph is the starting quarterback for the Steelers in 2024.
Nick Farabaugh of Pittsburgh Steelers Now was first to write about the quote Johnson made during Steelers lock room clean out.
Johnson said he’s been with Rudolph since 2019 and knew he would be fine stepping in.
I kind of had high hopes of him doing what he’s been doing when he became the starter,” Johnson said. “Hopefully, he gets the job next year and what he’s got to do, but he did a great job, in my opinion.”
Johnson had 14 catches for 228 yards including two touchdowns in four games with Rudolph as the starter.
In three game with Mitch Trubisky, Johnson had a touchdown in every game, so you can’t say Johnson’s comment are about him wanting to get his numbers up.
After the playoff loss on Monday, Rudolph said he doesn’t know what his future holds.
“None of us knows what is going to happen tomorrow, much less next year,” Rudolph said. “I’m still thinking about the game and the loss and it hurts and it stings. We probably could have done better today, the turnovers early, myself included, didn’t really give us the ability to put our best foot forward.”
It really feels like Head Coach Mike Tomlin is pushing for Kenny Pickett to be the starter in 2024, so we'll see how he reacts.
