PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Last time the Steelers played Cleveland, they had some success running the ball, but only rushed it 19 times. Tailback Rico Dowdle didn’t play in that first matchup, but is starting to get in a groove and ready for Sunday.
“I think last week we got a pretty good rhythm versus New Orleans, the week before as well,” Dowdle said. “It’s all about finding that rhythm. You definitely can feel it when it’s rolling out there in the run game.”
Dowdle is really working back after dislocating his toe twice during the Patriots game. He had the most carries he’s had as a Steeler with nine for 41 yards in Paris. In the last two weeks, 16 rushes for 81 yards, that’s a five-yard a rush average. It’s complemented what Jaylen Warren has done, currently seventh in the NFL with 561 yards.
“Jaylen has been incredible, one of the most explosive players in the league right now,” Dowdle said. “Just trying to come in and piggyback off of him and piggyback off each other and stay fresh at all times. It’s harder for the defense to contain it the whole game, you got to prepare for both, a plus for us.”
Playing for the Cowboys and Panthers previously, it’s the first time Dowdle has played in an AFC North game. It’s a battle of 5-2 teams, long-time bitter rivals for first place.
“My first one, definitely looking forward and excited for it,” Dowdle said. “It’s a division game, division games are always your toughest ones. You got to win the battle in the trenches. It starts up front, we are looking forward to the challenge and being the more physical team and imposing our will on them.”
