The apple of the Steelers’ draft eye running back Najee Harris may have secured a first round pick by Pittsburgh, if he’s still available.

The Alabama all-time leader for total touchdowns drove nine hours on Tuesday to support his fellow Crimson Tide players during their draft day. One Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert just happened to be at.

Harris didn't participate in Alabama's pro day, but maybe had an "unofficial" conversation with the Steelers delegate.

While Harris is one of the more prized running backs in the 2021 draft, what he did to drive all that way to support his teammates are just the type of intangibles the Steeler brass love.

If Harris is still available when the Steeler pick at 24, it will be hard for them to pass him up.

One mock draft has Harris going as early at 8th overall to Atlanta, with several others saying he won’t be picked in the first round.

But even if he doesn’t go in the first round, he probably won’t be around when they make the 55th pick in the second round.

Harris is also the all-time leading rusher in Bama history (3,843 yards).  He averaged 6.0 yards per carry.  Won the Doak Walker Award presented to the nation’s top running back.  Scored 30 touchdowns in his final season while finishing third with 1,466 rushing yards,

Harris is also a talented pass catcher and does a pretty good job blocking as well.

The Steelers needs on the defense and offensive line are great, but Harris may be too good to pass up.
