Dulac: Steelers had no interest in Sanders, all eyes on 2026 draft

Post-Gazette Steelers insider Gerry Dulac has some interesting things to say on The Rich Eisen Show Wednesday.

Dulac said that the Steelers were not interested in quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“The people that had him going to the Steelers and going at 21, that just wasn’t going to happen,” said Dulac.

Dulac added it wasn’t just Sanders, there weren’t going to take any quarterback at 21st overall. That included Jaxson Dart.

“They weren’t going to take a quarterback,” said Bob Pompeani. You can have a first-round grade, that doesn’t mean its going to be labeled as a franchise quarterback.”

Joe Starkey said going into the draft that he would take Sanders, “based on the quarterback I saw, but the circus . . . I wouldn’t have put up with that, the more I looked into Deion and the things that he was doing and saying.”

Andrew Fillipponi echoed the sentiments of many Fan listeners.

So, when it comes to the next franchise quarterback, it’s all about 2026 in Pittsburgh.

Dulac says the Steelers are set on moving up to find their next QB in the first-round of the NFL Draft, which will be in Pittsburgh.

Pomp says he thinks it’s a mix of the draft being in Pittsburgh, more talented quarterbacks to choose from next year and no one blowing them away in this most recent draft.
