Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth caught a touchdown with a little under four minutes in the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s victory against the Cleveland Browns to give Pittsburgh a comfortable lead.
To celebrated, Muuuth honored injured teammate, wide receiver George Pickens by punting the ball into the crowd at Acrisure Stadium.
The ball was caught by Lucas Boyd, who tells Pomp and Joe is was in section C138 when he got the ball.
“I was just perplexed that if fell in my hands,” said Boyd.
He said it was actually the second ball he caught that day. Earlier, during warm-ups, he was in one of the lower levels and caught a practice field goal, but had to give that ball back.
With the help of Bob Pompeani, it looks like Freiermuth is going to sign the ball for him, which he proved he has with a photo and videos.
Video of Boyd grabbing the ball was not shared until after the game because he says he was afraid he’d be asked to give it back.
“We went and we bought a blanket, we put the football in the bag and we put the blanket over top of it to get it out of there,” said Boyd.
Pompeani says Freiermuth confirmed he has punted in the past, explaining why it was such a great celebratory punt.
