Does Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward deserve more money? Yes,
Can the average fan relate to what Captain Cam is going through? No.
The 36-year-old had an All-Pro season after signing a new deal last year.
Now, according to reports, he wants his contract reworked.
It makes sense. His teammate T.J. Watt just signed a huge, new deal.
And, that’s Cam’s right. He is the 22nd highest-paid defensive lineman in the NFL, but, even at his age, he’s one of the best in the league.
He deserves to be paid like it.
If you were performing at the highest-level, but not getting paid for it, wouldn’t you want more money?
Where the disconnect for most people, is the amount of money that is being talked about.
We don’t know how much more Cam wants paid, but he’s set to make $14.7 million this year.
That’s money that 99 percent of us will never make in our entire life.
If your financial situation allows you to not worry about food, clothing, etc. it’s easier for you to understand Heyward’s position.
If you’re monitoring things like rising costs, how you’re going to pay your bills and what impact, if any, tariffs will have on your bottom line it’s hard to sympathize with someone wanting more money when they’ve just signed a deal and are making the kind of numbers they are.
The current economy isn't one that lends to sympathizing with millionaires.
It doesn’t mean that Heyward doesn’t deserve more money. He was the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year for his charitable work. He continues to be one of the most charitable athletes in Pittsburgh sports history!
Also, he isn’t the only one in pro sports or life trying to get more money where they can, especially if they deserve it… it’s just hard for most of us to sympathize.
