How the Steelers will use CB Ramsey and TE Smith

Called “the most stunning trade in Steelers history”, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is being sent back to the team that drafted him, along with a late-round draft pick in exchange for cornerback Jalen Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a late-round draft pick.

So, how will the new players coming from the Miami Dolphins fit into the Steelers’ plans?

93.7 The Fan Steelers insider Mark Kaboly of The Pat McAfee Show tells Donny Chedrick that, in addition to being a tight end, they plan to use Smith as a slot receiver and fullback.

Ramsey is viewed as an outside and slot cornerback and could play a little bit at safety.

He also thinks the Steelers became a better football team, maybe not by much, but they are better than they were before the trade took place.

Kaboly adds no one had any idea this trade was going to happen today and, for Steelers insiders, it came out of nowhere.

Kaboly says that Minkah attended all of the OTAs and didn’t seem disgruntled at all.

“I didn’t see any ill will or anything,” said Kaboly. “There were some issues last year, we do remember that where there was a lot of stuff happening in the secondary, a lot of bickering, a lot of people pointing toward (Fitzpatrick) as some of the problems.”

Kaboly adds he doesn’t think that is why Fitzpatrick is no longer with the organization.

Getting both Ramsey and Smith was just too good for the Steelers to pass up.
