Is Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert in North Carolina, potentially scouting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s successor?

UNC Tar Heels football coach tweeted out a photo of him and Colbert talking during practice on Tuesday.

Carolina’s starting QB Sam Howell’s name has been coming out of the mouths of mock drafters since the 2021 Draft ended.

While Howell struggled in North Carolina’s opening season loss to Virginia Tech, throwing for 208 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, he bounced back against Georgia State, throwing for 352 yards with three passing TDs. He also ran for 104 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.

In his first two seasons Howell has thrown for over 3,500 yards and have thrown over 30 touchdowns in each of those seasons. Both years he had seven interceptions.

While Howell has been inconsistent at times, he is excepted to be a top quarterback pick in the 2022 draft, so if he does fall (depending where the Steelers end up) they may be able to nab him.

You thought there was a quarterback controversy between Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins this preseason? Wait until next year if they draft Howell.
