Retired Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t turn 40 until March 2, but he got an early gift in the form of one of the greatest to ever do it.

Buffalo Bills legend and East Brady native Jim Kelly surprised Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh for a dinner.

Posting on his Instagram account, Kelly said, “A birthday surprise for Big Ben in the “Burg(h)” with the boys! Awesome night with such great people HAPPY early BIRTHDAY Ben! LOVE Ya Bud!”

Former Steelers running back and NFL analyst Merril Hoge, who was also in attendance said, “Two of the great people on this planet. What a great night with dear friends!!”

Roethlisberger officially retired at the end of January after 18 seasons, he appeared in three Super Bowls, winning two.

Kelly, a Hall of Famer, played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Bills, leading Buffalo to four straight Super Bowls, but was never able to win one.

The 62-year-old is a two-time cancer survivor.
