A former Steelers linebacker and Super Bowl champion thinks Steelers fans are spoiled.
Joey Porter Sr. the father of current Steelers cornerback, Joey Porter Jr. was on NFL Network Radio when he made the comments.
Porter said that fans were spoiled because of the team’s history of success.
He made the comments while defending head coach Mike Tomlin.
"The Fanbase is going to be the fanbase because they're spoiled," said Porter. “You don’t want to lose coach Tomlin and then realize you had a great one."
Spoiled?
Maybe historically, but a lot of Steelers fans were not around for the Super Bowls of the 70s and the Super Bowl XL was 20 years ago!
The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game in eight years.
25 of the 32 NFL teams have won at least one playoff game since then.
Adam Crowley said on the Fan Morning Show that with all of the heartbreak in AFC Championship games with Bill Cowher and the disappointment of the past eight years, he wouldn’t call that spoiled.
But Dorin Dickerson disagrees.
Dickson says a large portion of Steelers fans have seen at least two Super Bowl championships and a trip to another.
He adds that when the Steelers had future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and a high-powered offense with wide receiver Antonio Brown, there was always an expectation and possibility that Pittsburgh could make it and go deep into the playoffs.
“We took all those guys for granted,” said Dickerson adding that the Steelers are no “bad” right now.
They go 10-7 every year with a chance for the playoffs.
“You look around the NFL, teams wish they could have that consistency, year in and year out, the standard is very high,” said Dickerson
