The Steelers now have three quarterbacks under contract.
Pittsburgh General Manager Omar Khan says the team has signed quarterback Kyle Allen and defensive line Dean Lowry.
Allen's signing means the Steelers would not have to draft a quarterback to fill out the room.
Allen was the backup quarterback in Buffalo last season for starter Josh Allen.
Former Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky re-signed with Buffalo when free agency began after two seasons in Pittsburgh.
Trubisky was Allen's backup in 2021.
Kyle Allen went undrafted in 2018 after playing college ball at Texas A&M before finishing at Houston.
Over five seasons, the 28-year-old Allen has appeared in 30 games, starting 19 games between Carolina, Washington, Houston and Buffalo.
He is 7-12 as a starter with 4,734 yards, 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He has a passer rating of 82.2.
Lowry was drafted in the 4th round in 2016 by the Green Bay Packers where he started for seven seasons before signing with Minnesota.
He started in four games for the Vikings last season, appearing in nine games. He suffered a pectoral injury last November and put on IR.
Last year with the Vikings, the 6'6", 296-pounder played 40% of the defensive snap before his injury.
He was released earlier this month by the Vikings.
He has one career interception, one forced fumble, five fumble recoveries, one for a touchdown and 266 total tackles
