LATROBE, PA (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers will see a familiar face as the Tampa Bay starting quarterback, the Bucs announced Baker Mayfield will take the first snaps during the first preseason game on Friday night on KDKA-TV.
“Yeah, he’ll start this week, Kyle [Trask] will start next week and we’ll kind of go from there,” said Bucs head coach Todd Bowles on Wednesday.
In his first season with Tampa Bay, Mayfield is in a starting battle with the 2021 Tampa second-found pick.
After going 6-8 in his final season with the Browns, Mayfield went a combined 2-8 with Carolina and the Rams completing 60% of his passes for six touchdowns and six interceptions. He won three of his eight matchups against the Steelers, including throwing for three touchdowns and no picks in the Wild Card game at Acrisure Stadium in 2020.
Overall, he completed 56% of his passes for 1,294 yards with nine touchdowns to six interceptions against the Steelers. He also had by far his highest rushing numbers against the Steelers 29 carries, 155 yards. Mayfield also was sacked 29 times by the Steelers, that’s 15 more than against any other team.
