The Steelers next round of cuts have come and unfortunately include safety Antoine Brooks Jr., who was the starter at slot corner at the beginning of minicamp.

Brooks Jr. spent most of camp injured though.

As The Fan's Josh Rowntree points out, this gives James Pierre a better chance of playing, maybe even starting.

Brooks Jr. was waived/injured.

The other four players were released.

Those being offensive lineman Aviante Collins, wide receiver Tyler Simmons, running back Pete Guerriero and linebacker Calvin Bundage.

Bundage signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in June out of Oklahoma State.

Guerriero was signed by the Steelers earlier this month and spent most of last year on and off the New York Jets roster.

Collins spend most of 2020 on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad but was activated for their Week 11 game against Dallas.

Collins signed a reserve/futures contract with Pittsburgh in February.

Simmons signed after Georgia's Pro Day back in May.

The next round of cuts is August 31, when each team must have their 53-man roster in place.

That will include some bigger names for players who are competing for spots with Pittsburgh.
