Najee Harris said he's good to play Sunday

Steelers tailback missed 1st couple of practices with an oblique injury

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – If it's just up to him, Steelers tailback Najee Harris said he's good to play on Sunday. He said he's been cleared after an oblique injury sent him to the hospital during the Colts game.

Harris missed the first two days of practice this week, but said he did his first work on Friday. Saying he got back to the movements of football and it felt good.

"Rest helps, that's what I was doing the last few days," Harris said. "Just letting it heal by itself a little bit. Did a couple of treatments to speed it up. I think me and the medical staff, we did a pretty good job of handling it."

He's not sure how it happened during the game. It wasn't a play where he first started feeling it, but said the pain kept growing and eventually ended up in the hospital.

They spend a lot of time together as a running back group. He got a big smile on his face when asked about the contributions of Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland on Monday night.

"When I scored that touchdown, I put my arms around them," Harris said. "I told them you've done a good job of spelling me, but you are going to have to finish the game."

"This room is going to keep making plays, but not just me, it's going to be all of us," Harris said. "I think they've done a good job all year, including Warren, McFarland and Snell, working together as a team. Not just finishing out the game, but special teams, going downfield and making plays. That's how good our room is."

The second-year tailback said they need to keep their run game going against an Atlanta team that likes to run the football. Harris said he believes they are the offense and they can continue to control the clock and tire out defenses.

"That was something that was really important," Harris said. "We talked about how we want to control the ball and help our defense a lot. We got to help them out as much as they help us out. Wearing down the defense puts us in a good position and makes us have more explosive plays."
