PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The reaction was quick and pro-Justin Fields. What experts on the NFL Network said after they first reported Fields would sign for two years, $40 million with the New York Jets.

It was part of their ‘Free Agency Frenzy’ Show on the first day of legal tampering in the NFL.

Brian Baldinger

“I’m a fan of this move. He’s only 26-years-old. He has 44 NFL starts and we all know there are things he needs to improve on. I didn’t really think (the Steelers) put him in position last year to really be that dynamic playmaker that we saw in Chicago at times. He did take care of the football and seemed overly cautious in doing that. He’s a dynamic runner. He makes you defend all 11 players. He’s got a big arm. He’s a great athlete and he’s young. What he needs is what Sam Darnold got, stability. Let him grow in a system, the Jets will give him that opportunity.”

Judy Bautista

“The Jets are counting on that there is still a very high ceiling for Fields and that he can reach it. It’s a clean start for the New York Jets and they are hoping what the Steelers saw in training camp and the first few weeks that had so many people convinced in the building that he had a lot of upside. When they made the switch to Russell Wilson there plenty of people in the building in Pittsburgh that weren’t sure that was the right move.”

Mark Ross

“I thought (Fields) should have stayed as the (Steelers) quarterback.”

David Carr

“I think Justin has ability (now with the Jets). It has to start with Fields on the ground and threaten the defense on the perimeter because he’s so good there. Why would you take that superpower away from him?”

Mike Garafolo

“What a terrific deal for Fields. What an opportunity for him. He was the starting quarterback that was replaced while he was playing well and progressing. I know there were a lot of people in that building in Pittsburgh that thought he was on his way up and we’ve sort of started the season by really limiting him.”

Maurice Jones-Drew

“It gives Justin Fields an opportunity to prove himself with a two-year deal. He has to be implemented in the run game. His superpower is his legs.”
