INDIANAPOLIS (93.7 The Fan) – He has been mocked to the Steelers by long-time EPSN draft expert Mel Kiper and others. Why NFL Network NFL Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah said Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is ‘fascinating’.

In his first year as the starting quarterback, the 6’2”, 208-pound redshirt-junior completed 64.5% of his passes for 3,567 yards with 28 touchdowns to five interceptions. He won the Crimson Tide’s first three games against ranked teams in 2025.
·     24-38, 276 yards and 3 total touchdowns in 24-21 win at Georgia
·     23-31, 340 yards, 2 TD, INT in 30-14 win over Vanderbilt
·     19-29, 253 yards, 2 TD in 37-20 win over Tennessee

“If you take that small sample size of those good games early in the year, you can get excited about him,” Jeremiah told 93.7 The Fan at the NFL Combine.

Jeremiah said Wednesday morning he looked back at all of Simpson’s third and seven throws, which is a measuring stick for evaluations of draft-eligible quarterbacks. What he noticed was something so many assume is a constant with the talent at Alabama that impacted his season.

“It was not an Alabama supporting cast you are accustomed to seeing,” Jeremiah said in Indianapolis. “There is a lot of pressure on him. There’s not a lot of guys uncovering down the field. You can excuse away some of the drop off in performance late.”

And that indeed happened, winning only one of his last four games against ranked teams including a brutal performance against number one Indiana in the College Football Playoffs.
·     28-42, 326 yards, TD, INT in 23-21 loss to Oklahoma
·     19-39, 212 yards, TD, INT, -28 yards rushing in 28-7 loss to Georgia in SEC title game
·     18-29, 232 yards, 2 TD, -22 yards rushing in 34-24 playoff win at Oklahoma
·     12-16, 67 yards in 38-3 playoff loss to the Hoosiers

“You can’t run away from the fact that the limited number of starts, the track record there as not been good,” Jeremiah said. “But you can find really good tape on him.”

“So, there’s intrigue with him.”

Jeremiah has Simpson ranked as the 40th overall prospect.

Is that intrigue worth the risk?
