CLEVELAND (93.7 The Fan) – You saw it on TV as Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers were frustrated, at one point an expletive was captured on the screen as the Steelers lost again in Cleveland, 27-24 on a late Browns field goal.
The play was in the first half as Rodgers was frantically trying to get the play in and McCarthy showed his frustration calling his quarterback a word we can’t publish.
“Everybody is competing on the field. What is said on the field, the way I grew up in this game, usually stays on the field,” McCarthy said. “That’s not the case today. I understand that. Any negative communication on my part, I wish I wouldn’t have used those words.”
Along with that incident caught on tape, there were several times where the offense had to hustle from the huddle to be able to get a play off and then did get called with a delay of game
“It was loud,” Rodgers said. “It was definitely a good crowd tonight. It was loud so some of the calls were hard to hear, for sure.”
Rodgers also had to deal with a lot of pressure. He was sacked five times, hurried 10 times and had eight passes defensed.
“It wasn’t our cleanest game all the way around, Rodgers said. “They are a good defense, so you got to give them credit. They were getting after us on some of the long-yardage stuff and we weren’t winning a bunch. I missed a couple of throws I usually hit
“We had some protection challenges,” McCarthy said. “They did a good job up front. It was five-man pressure, man-to-man game. They established that right from the beginning. It was herky-jerky. When you play those games, it’s who is going to make the big play. You have to step out of tackles, you have to separate, you have to give him time to get through the progression.”
“It was an aggressive game plan by them. I kind of expected some of it, but I thought it was very competitive environment tonight, and we were one play short.”
