Is Kenny Pickett the reason Kenny Pickett wasn't the backup behind Mason Rudolph during Sunday's win against the Seattle Seahawks?
Pickett was ruled inactive before the game with the Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac reporting that he "was healthy to play."
The Athletic and 93.7 The Fan's Mark Kaboly said on The Fan Morning Show Monday that he is "skeptical" about Pickett not dressing.
"Might be the only way I can put it right now," said Kaboly. "I'm very, very highly skeptical that it was 100 percent Mike Tomlin's decision that Kenny Pickett did not dress yesterday."
Hinting that he knows a little more than what he is says, Kaboly said he knows but can't write about it yet, which is why he remains skeptical.
If it strange, especially with the way that Mitch Trubisky performed in his starts this year, that they would dress him over Pickett.
It's unknown if Pickett not dressing for the Seahawks game is influence from General Manager Omar Khan, Owner Art Rooney II or maybe even Pickett himself, not wanting to be the backup after he was taken by the Steelers in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Tomlin said that Pickett didn't have enough reps to be ready for Seattle.
Saying, "we'll see where the week leads us" Tomlin didn't say for sure if Pickett will be active this week, but added there is a better chance of him dressing for the Ravens game.
Tomlin was asked how Pickett is handling the situation.
"Man, he is a competitor, he wants the football, he wants to play but at the same time he's a team player," said Tomlin.
Later, Tomlin refused to tell the media how Pickett reacted to the news that Rudolph would be starting again.
"I'm not getting into all of that, I'll let him speak for himself, you guys can ask him when he has availability later in the week," said Tomlin.
It's not known for sure, but Pickett's frustration may be getting the best of him. During his availability last week, he was asked if he has learned anything from watching on the sidelines.
He answered with an abrupt "no."
He did say he remains friends with everyone in the quarterback room.
Former Steelers guard Trai Essex responded to rumors of Pickett's frustrations on X (formerly Twitter).
